Hi everyone!

Sooooooo my job has officially taken over my life - BUT - I am still painting my nails like ever and thought I would share!

By the way - yes I took these with my phone, it's been so long I have NO IDEA where my camera charger is! Sorry!!

I used a franken pinky-nude as the base - this was actually my first failed attempt at frankening my own mannequin colour - and Konad special polish in black with the lace design from plate m65.
Because my talons are verging on velociraptor the image did not cover my entire nail I freehanded black french tips with Diamond Cosmetics - Starry Night.

I would really love to hear what you think - I know my technique has dropped since I stopped blogging and I welcome all critique! My cuticles need a LOT of help I know...

Hi everyone!

Eyeko. I want to love them so much...

I have been a little disappointed in some of their polishes (remember this one) but they have adorable packaging and sweet ideas. I went off and got myself a haul - eyeliners, lip products, the lot!

I am in love with their Soho lip gloss -

the right amount of sticky, shiny and colour, a sweet smell and not overpowering. Watch this space as I have man y more makeup looks coming your way!

Top Coat? (Seche still has my heart, i'm one of those magical people that it doesn't shrink on and doesn't go gluggy at the end of a bottle. I'm on my 5th bottle and have never bought the thinner for it.)

Finish? (Matte, Glitter, Holo, Flakie etc.) And what your fave product is to get that effect?

All time lemming polish?

Konad wheel - and which design?

Other thing I need to have?

HELLO!!!

Okay lovelies I know I have been ignoring you for far too long... I miss you all so much!

I have been lurking away in the background and am now planning my return to toxic lipstick fresh faced and with a swag of new polish for you all to feast your peepers on!

In the meantime, even through we don't really celebrate halloween here in Australia some friends of mine hosted a halloween party!

Okay so I remember the gorgeous Stiletto asking how it is that cars have so many GORGEOUS chameleons and multichromes and yet we're stuck with boring duochromes!
I picked this up at my local random dusty polish place for AU$3!

It's from US #1 Beauty (Anyone heard of these guys? I haven't!) and apprently this one is toluene and formadehyde free (if you're into that...)

I COULD NOT capture the amazing multichrome in this, it keeps showing up as a green/purple duo instead of the blue/purple/green/yellow magnificence that it should be!

I'm considering getting a heap of these for a giveaway! Anyone interested?

Hi guys!
Hopefully I will be posting more regularly from hereon!
Unfortunately my workplace isn't too happy with mad colours, I'm pushing boundaries but my boss doesn't really like it, she has about 5 bottles of nail polish (OMG) and keeps her nails super short, she thinks mine are CRAZY!
Here's a vault pic to kick us off, from the time when my nails were very short!

This is another foil, i really think it is hideous! The orange and yellow tones clash with my skin, but let me know what you think!

For the base coat I used the gold-orange colour from the haul sent to me by Scandalous, I haven't swatched it yet! Argh!

If anyone likes this, please let me know. I have a HUGE roll of it and I'll likely never use it again!

I said I was back and proceeded to not post any pretty pictures.

And I agree with you.

So here you go - one that's been a long time coming, these are what I did just before I decided to drop a 15kg (about 33lb) box on my thumbnail. Yeowch.

As you can see I didn't do an amazing job - but I loved this!

I used Colour Club - After Hours as my base (a black shimmer) then Kami brand glue and Nail Art Sealer (this doesn't wrinkle or craze foils and you can use FDTC on top! - I got mine on eBay), then as per usual slapped some Seche Vite on top.

Oh an excuse the random bit of funk under my nail in that last photo. (is it cardboard? Food? I have no idea!)

I am quite convinced that these little beauties saved what remained of my nail.

I did paint my nails while away, but I won't subject you to my nubbin photos, it just means I'll have to paint them again! (collective "aww")

Surprise my darklings!
I told you I'd be back!

Here's a mini update on everything that's been happening in my little world...

Started temping, finished temping, got called back to work as casual contract for the company, broke my thumby nail (but you knew that), racked up a stupid internet bill, got cut off, got taken on as casual by work, watched my nails grow, received a mystery package (WHO WAS THAT!?!? TELL ME!!!!!!) did some modelling, and yesterday, the big day, finally got the internet reconnected AND got offered a permanent contract at my job! Yay!

I know I've missed a LOT while I've been away, you all need to fill me in ASAP!
What's the gossip? Who's hated? Who's new? What trends are you loving? What life changing posts have you made? What have you been doing with your lovely selves?!

I'm doing a quick post at a friends house to let you know everything is all okay and that I miss you!
I managed to rack up a whopping internet bill and am currently in the process of paying it off, until then I'll be away but hopefully for not much longer!

Also, I just got word that my work has accepted me full time until AT LEAST july! So YAY!

Hello my darklings!

Very recently I ordered a tiny haul from the very lovely Evil Angel (one of the Wicked Vixens!) who owns her own makeup company called Evil Shades.
If you haven't seen her stuff before, check it out here.

Last night I decided to play around with everything I got! Are you ready for this?
HUGE HUGE HUGE MAKEUP POST BEHIND THE JUMP...

Eyeshadows:

Thse are the eyeshadows I got, L-R,

Panic, Heartless Queen, Sinister, Cheshire, Venom

For primer here I'm using MAC paint pot - painterly

Venom is black. Not matte of flat, but sparkly black with loads of depth. I can never get enough black eyeshadows and this fits the bill perfectly. Wet or over primer it is a true black, and blends really well.

Cheshire is gorgeous, a smokey purple with loads of shimmer with a pinkish reflection if applied lightly.

My camera refused to capture the gorgeousness that is this green!

Super shimmery, bright and fun!

My camera hated this colour too, believe me when I say this is RED.

Slightly blue/pink toned and packed with simmer.

A very sweet shimmery baby pink colour.

So gorgeous, reminds me of candy. I can imagine a Hime-Gyaru or Lolita using this a lot.

Eyshadows, in short: These apply great over primer or wet, applied dry they are very soft and sheer.

The colours are truly gorgeous, I need them all!

The only "cons" I can think of to say about the eyeshadows (and I really had to try to find anything bad!) are that when mine arrived I had a few that desperately tied to escape, the pots had unscrewed themselves slightly in shipping and because there are no sifters everything in the bag had a fine coating of shadow.

Not a big issue, but maybe can be fixed with a tiny bit of tape to make sure the pots don't unscrew in international shipping.

Lipgloss:

"Deadly"

This is just gorgeous. I only ordered one gloss as I hate when: it's too sticky, smells weird, tastes awful, too goopy, too thin, too gritty I could go on. All through high school I searched for the "prefect" gloss - to no avail. Colours I loved felt or smelled weird, good consistencies had boring colours or smelled weird.

If only I had known about evil shades... I have been blown away by this gloss. It smells great, a subtle coconut smell, by no means overpowering, it's not gritty or goopy or sticky. And the colour... I love this.

It's not quite as dark as I thought it would be, but it's definitely a wearable red.

Lipsticks:

The three lipsticks I got (T-B) Fiendish, Bane, Suffocation.

As you can see above, one stoke out of the tube gives gorgeous sheer colour,

but builded up these colours really pack a punch!

Fiendish: This was really hard to photograph, it ended up looking far more patchy (it wasn't this bad!)

First cab of the rank is the totally unwearable, mind blowing, absolutely amazing blue lipstick.

As soon as I saw this i HAD to have it. I am determined to wear it out, clubbing, to the supermarket, anywhere except for work. A friend saw this is my makeup bag, she has now decided she needs it too!

Bane: This is a simply gorgeous colour! In the pic above it's not as shiny or showing much of the true colour, in life it's an amazing candy pink that reflects blue! A light coat (as above) is super subtle, wearable even to work! Build it up and it completely changes from sweet to kickarse!

Corruption: Can you see how frikking gorgeous this is?! A deep purpley burgundy with GREEN shimmer. Love love love love love. Seriously.

Lipsticks, in short: These are nothing short of AMAZING. The colours ROCK, the formula is silky and creamy, they're super moisturising and did I mention, THEY SMELL LIKE CANDY. Oh my god... I can't stop wearing them just because of the smell!

I really can't think of a single bad thing to say about these at all...

Now all that's left to do is bide my time while Evil Shades takes over the world. Help her out!

Hello my darklings!

Sorry for my absence of late, I've been ridiculously busy lately, what with working and... working. Haha!

Another reason I've been away is I had a bit of a problem. As you may have known I had a tear in my right thumbnail below the quick, I'd been using pieces of tea bag as a silk wrap replacement, but the inevitable happened, I didn't buff it down quite as much as I thought I had and I snagged it, tearing across.

I hate having my nails mis-matched lengths. So I've been reduced to this...

I'm just kidding!

I really hope all of you can tell the difference between bitten and cut nails!

Okay back on topic... sort of...

Here's what they REALLY look like!

My inpiration for this was partly all the cute pastels I kept seeing around easter, as well as having Nubar - Milk Chocolate Creme turn up. I'm not sure about using it for day-to-day polish, but boy, I'll use this guy for nail art for sure!

What I used:

Thumb and pinkies: Eyeko - Lilac Polish(The only Eyeko so far that agreed with me! Yay!)

Forefinger: Franken

Middle: BYS - White

Ring: Eyeko - Vintage

Chocolate: Nubar - Milk Chocolate Creme

Rhinestones: Konad Nail Art Stones

Yay!

Oh and the title of this post is from me worried that chocolate would look more like... well... you get the picture.

My photography lecturer in Uni used to used the phrase "turd polishing" a lot. It means when you start with a piece of crap, you can spend ours and hours polishing and refining it, but in the end, it's still a piece of crap.

One day he was looking at what I was working on, shook his head and for the billionth time...

"You can't polish a turd"

Not missing a beat I looking him in the eye with a manic grin and said

"Maybe... but you can roll it in glitter!"

He was HORRIFIED.

Hi everyone!

Some good news - looks like i'll be temping again for the next couple of weeks! Yay!

Anyway - on to the polish.

Now, this was the one I was looking forward to the most... a bright electric purple...

While mucking around on polyvore (while wearing the Vintage - I was inspired by Nihrida's polyvores!) I made a set to encompass the purpley awesome I was expecting...

Ahhh... yummy purple, maybe set off with some black and white....

Unfortunately I got THIS....

What... the... heck? It actually CHANGED COLOUR from what was in the bottle... I managed to scrape one last use out of my dying bottle of Seche so I know it wasn't that... I'm also at a loss to explain the weird bubbly texture thats going on (if you can't see, click the above pic to figure out what I'm on about)

Just to make my point absurdly clear, look at the above photo. The purple on the left is the bottle of polish. On the right, my nail covered 3 coats of that exact polish.

Application on this was way better than the Vintage polish, but not worth it for a boring berry shimmery creme. Blech. And yet the bottle colour was so awesome!

Vault 101: Nude franken and first foil!

Hi everyone!

I'm cleaning out my little stack of posts to do before moving onto new stuff!
This was a franken I made out of Essie - The Naked Truth, I was never going to use it again as it was, and wanted to see if I could get it closer to my skintone, unfortunately my skin is multiple colours, not one!

Pretty darn close! This is 3 coats, it's still a little sheer as you can see, but no where near as bad as it was!

I also had some foils turn up from eBay, so I decided to give them a go!

These may not have been the best choice for a first try, as because they are clear it was impossible to tell if they had transferred or not...

Hrm, not too bad for a first try! It looks a lot less shonky in person, trust me!
NB: I've since had a go with another foil that didn't have a transparent backing and the results were MUCH better...

Hi everyone!
I just had to be one of the first to show you these!
This is the Black Crackle set from BYS!

Sorry about the messy cleanup - using straight acetone wouldn't budge the crackle polish! I had to SCRUB it off with the brush, making it look a little messy. Next time I'll just be more careful with my application, not in the dark while watching TV!

I noticed I use a lot of black and white, looking back through my old posts I was suprised to see how long my nails have gotten! They've always been quite long, but this is by far the longest they've ever been! Here's a comparison photo...

Holey moley!

Though I love how long they are at the moment, they are starting to get awkward, not to mention feeling weak and "wobbly" - something I've never had before! So there may be a nubbin-isation in the near future...

Also, thanks again to the VERY lovely Jacie from You've Got Nail - what a sweetheart! It was so lovely to finally meet another nail blogger in person!
I also got a couple more from her - but you'll have to wait until I try them to find out what they are!

Anyhow! Here is a little something that arrived in my mailbox on friday...
Eyeko's Vintage Polish!

NB: I am desperately running out of Seche Vite, meaning until the new bottles get here you're gonna have to deal with ugly bubbly top coat again. *sigh*

The colour in the above pics is pretty true to life, except its a teensy bit more green. It looks kinda blue here. My camera went funked up at the idea of photographing this one. :(

I really didn't enjoy this, I left it on for a couple of days purely to make it worthwhile... application was pretty damn awful, though apparently it's better than the old formula, which must have been a total nightmare. The colour is pretty as hell, but it was quite sheer, and with my long nails and the tiny bottles, doing three coats used up about a third of a bottle!! Mostly this is because it won't let you do a thin coat as it was so goopy.
But the colour is hella pretty, although next time I think I'll franken my The Face Shop mint green to make it a bit darker and more blue, the application of it was better and considering price and availability, I probably wouldn't buy it again.

OH.. MY... SWEET... GOD...
Could this be any more lush?

Okay how I did this one was apply Manglaze - Fuggen Ugly all over the nails (as you saw yesterday)

Then I took some of those french tip stickers, the flat ones not the curved ones (I think they're for toenails?) and cut them in half.

I then stuck them onto the other half at a 90 degree angle while still on the backing paper, peeled the whole thing off and stuck it down on my nails, then applied Manglaze - Hot Mess over the tips.

Look pretty awesome I reckon!

Because I had two different finishes to work with here I thought it would be a good chance to do a matte top coat comparison. Here's what I ended up with!

Hi everyone!

This is what I wore for most of last week - yes in a corporate office - no one seemed to care so I went with it! I had a package in the mail from the VERY amazing Tiffani. This is - of course - Manglaze Fuggen Ugly. It is DIVINE.

Mattified shimmery goodness! *drool*

Go outside I hear you say? Okay!

Application on this was awesome - I've never worked with matte polishes before but I always crap up matte topcoats, need to get used to the fast drying idea! But just look... look... now I have a secret to tell you... come closer... closer...

*whispers* I didn't do cleanup on this...

Not that you could tell from it being all jacked up around my cuticles... blargh... but yes... manglaze is a dream... I'm off to buy more! Ta ta!

Random makeup post!

Hi Everyone!
I've been playing with my makeup lately - I ran out and bought MAC's Painterly so I am able to do eye looks without creasing and with better blending! Yay! I really need to buy myself a proper set of makeup brushes (I have 4 brushes... ugh) but I'm creating some fun looks so far!

I got these samples with my new foundation from Pure Cosmetics.
I love this! I have totally been converted to mineral powder for a while now, but I think Pure Cosmetics are the best I've tried!
If you buy a pot of their mineral foundation they send you FIVE colour samples of your choosing so you can get your absolute perfect colour!

They offer two kinds, "Classic" and "Ultimate" - Ultimate is the same but jam packed with nutrients. That's the one I got.
I went with colour "Porcelain Mist" and it matches my very pale, very cool toned skin perfectly! Because I had already bought samples not realising they came free with the foundation, I got some mineral eyeshadows instead.
I got three "travelling" eyeshadows - they look white but reflect a different colour, as well as two mineral eyeliner colours, a black and a metallic pewter.
These are the eyeshadows I got:

And here's what they look like; (I already had a full size of Pluto from them- it's part of the set so I swatched it too) These have all been swatched wet:

And here's a look I did using only Uranus and the pewter eyeliner (around the crease, used dry not as an eyeliner) that I wore to the supermarket!

It was far brighter in real life and it looks amazing how it changes under different lighting!

Before using an eye primer my eye makeup used to crease up in a matter of minutes - not anymore! I am learning new makeup tips on youtube - if you have any tutorials you think I should watch or and looks you want me to try, please let me know in a comment!

Yup... april fools!
I'm glad I didn't get many of you, did you really think I'd leave you all? No way!

ANYWAY I know I have been REALLY backed up with posts... please be patient with me as for the next week or so they might be a little al over the place...

First cab off the rank... my nails for the Obsidian Lace photoshoot! I know technically you've seen them in the other photos I posted but I don't know how many of you saw them (or saw how bony my wrists are or my freaky long hands! I'll wait here while you check.... back? Okay!)

I'm not going to post a billion shots of this one as it's simple and my application was a bit dodgy because I was in a rush. I used stargazer's white for the base, used reinforcements and painted over with colour club's after hours.

I'd love any ideas you may have for nails for future photoshoots! I'd like them to be mostly gothic style, preferably in monochrome colours.

A BAT! P2, Toxin the model...

Hi!

Yep you read right, model.
Some of you know I studied photography in Uni but was unable to complete it due to financial situations.
Now I'm trying my hand at modelling, I literally fell into it - I turned up at a photoshoot and the wardrobe stylist said "you'll be wearing this!" i was shocked - "I'm not a model - I'm one of the photographers!" "not today - we have two models and four photographers plus you... you're tall, skinny and pretty enough. You're a model."

From there I discovered a whole new way of doing things - modelling with the eye and knowledge of a photographer, learning how other people use poses and lighting to best effect, what looks good, what doesn't. For now its a new little side path on the main road I am heading down.

I had a shoot on saturday in Ballarat in the Botanical Gardens, this one was for an amazing Corset Designer called Obsidian Lace. I looove her corsets. For the shoot I wore "Dutchess" (the black steampunk one) and one from her GlitterSniffer range - a collaboration with an amazing artist.

I won't bombard you with photos, but I may add to this as more come in from the photographers.

Hi everyone!
Just a quick little post to show you what I got in the mail.

First off, yes I know about the drama. No, I don't really care. I bought these on eBlah-y. I've heard A LOT of reviews that say these are either AMAZING or AWFUL.
I went with the two colours that a) I would probably wear and b) seem to have fared better in most reviews.

What am I talking about?

Yup. I did it. And yes they look like sex toys... I showed a girl at work today (HAHA ME AT WORK *dies*) and she was frightened. The poor girl had no idea what I was about to do when in the bathroom I pulled it out of my handbag for a touchup. She was very relieved to find it was only a lipstick.

These are the two I got, Retrofuturist and Styletto.

Surprisingly, I like them! I have issues with lipstick, usually being that I forget that I have it on and wipe it all over my face or eat it off so it's patchy. Also, I can't get kisses from Jai. I wore the red to work, and it really is red. I have Urban Decay's "Jezebel" (discontinued) which I always thought was a kablam red. This is my new kablam red, it really is a true red, very bright with no blue or orange undertones.

Now for my review of these...

Retrofuturist.
First off, I was a little disappointed.
The colour was great, packaging is... sex toy-esque, and yes, they kinda smell like MAC, but my issue is that it was slightly busted before I got to try it on.
When i opened it i wound it up very very carefully as I've read a few reviews where Retrofuturist is broken, and didn't want it falling on the carpet in case that happened with my tube, it wasn't broken off, but it did have a mark on the side.
The first time putting it on I noticed it was wobbling a hell of a lot. After taking it to work today it sweated a little and seems to have gone melty at the bottom.
I've used it twice now and it's pretty much broken off at the bottom.

So now I apply it with a lip brush while it's only wound up a teensy bit, allowing me to be much more careful.
The pics above are done with a brush, blotted, then applied from the tube.
The colour ends up the same either way, though this little guy stains quite a bit.

(After almost 15 hours I took it off... to find this.)

It's not as drying as I've read, and has a semi-matte texture. It stays really well without annoying me, if any lipstick feels gunky I can't forget I'm wearing it and usually end up taking it off after 5 minutes. I wore this all day (from 7.30am until 10pm - minus taking it off to swatch Styletto) and only reapplied 4 times including the swatch above.

It's really soft feeling, not chunky, not dry, not glossy, not goopy, awesome colour and overall, I like it. I'm not completely convinced about Lime Crime's other colours, the swatches look really either really patchy or like they're wearing the entire tube or photoshopped, though from my experience, even with the melty/breaky/staining formula, I think I'd buy it again.

Styletto
Sorry for my wonky application on this one!
Black is hard to do perfectly, whether it's eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow or lipstick, and if you stuff it up, it's screamingly obvious.
This one was pretty good. When I first opened the tube it was picture perfect, now the side has a mark just like R.
It feels soft and creamy and kind of "light" compared to most other dark lipsticks, but you can still feel that it's there.
This is a true black that fades out to a grey - not a purple.
In the pics above it doesn't look that way - that's because I wore Retrofuturist all day and it stained my lips, so that's the red tones you can see above.

Here's a swatch picture on my hand to prove it.

This one stains too, as you can see below.
I had this on my hand for long enough to set up the photo above, snap it, then find a paper towel.

Okay, I have a confession.
This is my first ever black lipstick.
I was always afraid of looking like a goth kid using halloween makeup or a juggalo.

Not what we want... so I avoided it. Sure I had dark purples and deep dark colours that were *almost* black - but they weren't. So I finally took the plunge.
You know what? I'm glad I did.
I love it.
It's severe, and at the same time I think it looks good, not teenager shoplifting from a halloween store at all. I mostly bought it for photoshoots, but I think I'd happily wear it out clubbing. Maybe not to work...

Black lipstick is becoming more mainstream, MAC did it with their Style Black collection (from which I got two liglosses) and Catwalks are going mad with it.
When I took the shot of Styletto on, the shape of my lips reminded me of this:

So all in all, Lime Crime, you have a goth's black lipstick cherry.

Yes, I work fast.

I used a long and arduous process of printing out paper and writing on it how many entries each person had, then giving them the amount of entries as consecutive numbers. All in all there were 191 entries belonging to 50 people. I then hit up random.org and told it to give me a number between 1 and 191.

Now for a big fucking rant from a very annoyed goth.
I'm also not posting pictures of the paper as I am DISGUSTED at how many people simply cannot follow basic rules, meaning their names were crossed out, scribbled over, or had swear words written on them, and I do not wish to start a war.
FOURTEEN PEOPLE either cannot read, are too lazy to, or just want to scam some free shit off an unemployed girl trying to have some fun.

Guess what? I'm not an idiot.
I went through my list of followers with a fine tooth comb, finding people that weren't in there at all or under a completely different name, as I have no way of finding if they had entered twice, they were disqualified immediately.

(If you had one letter different, a smiley face or I already know you, you're safe, everyone else, set yourselves on fire.)

So you want to win some stuff?
Fine. I encourage it. I want stuff too!
But when there are very simple directions above a text box, with words like "COMPULSORY" "MUST" etc, uh... follow the rules?

I have had one heck of a weird day today.

As you know I'm unemployed at the moment but today I got an offer for some temping work, as well as an invitation to a job induction as well as in just over a week I have an interview for a third job.

This week is going to be BUUUSSSSYYYY. Which means Toxin needs a little break. I'm going to be very corporate-bland and not my usual spookycute self at all. I have a feeling inspiration will dwindle. The upside of this is that in just a little while I may be employed! (Lots more money for polish!)

I'll still be painting away, so I'll have lots to show you when I get back from my break.

Hi everyone!
So, I'm a doofus and can't find my camera! I swear I've looked EVERYWHERE and have no idea where the little bugger got to... I know I had it in my room last as I uploaded photos and haven't taken any more since... so for my idiocy you get my newest weekly segment early... it's called... *drum roll*

I don't yet have a DSLR as I'm unemployed and have no savings because I need all the money I can get just for food. Nail Polish is a mega splurge for me and the only thing that keeps me sane.

I prefer to work with film becuase I feel it is more involved (I usually process and develop all my own work, including some colour!)

Hello everyone.

Before you see these, I'm sorry.
I really, truly am.

I should only show you beautiful, gorgeously manicured nails.
I shouldn't show you this.

I shouldn't be laughing.

But seriously, if these guys had legs, i'd be telling them to RUN not walk to crazy town.

First off I'll let you know how this came about. I got three polishes from China Glaze's Ink collection. Being a MANIAC for purple I've known for ages that I had to get Flying Dragon. I also picked up Japanese Koi and Blue Sparrow.

Next, I wanted to do some nail art with these guys. Initially wanting to do something tattoo themed, the idea crumbled as I created these monstrosities...

Why on earth did I attempt something so ambitious?

Because I wanted to.

And I hoped it would have one of two results:

a) something AMAZING

b) something HILARIOUS.

Which do you think it was?

Hi guys!

As you all can see Toxic Lipstick is getting a brand new look! I'm still tweaking some minor details but comments seem to be back up and running, as I was using an external commenting system, since that came into play all comments were saved.

On another note, I'm noticing a heck of a lot of people not following basic direction when it comes to my contest.
Is it really that hard to find one thing you'd change about my blog? On the other hand, some of you have really cut loose and are pointing the finger at any little thing! I mean, I know I brought it on myself, but for new followers to enter and use it as a chance to be hurtful? Geez...
It goes without saying anyone that can NOT follow direction will be disqualified immediately.
I get the feeling they probably won't read this in any event, haha!

This is three coats of Sally Hansen - Sheer Romance and 2 coats Cheri - Candy Apple.

Then I spiced it up a bit more! This is Maybelline Express Finish. Not sure the name of the colour as there's no label but it's a red jelly with very fine red glitter through it.

Then I added even more to it! This is Orly Prisma Gloss Gold.

Dream Catcher... is orange?

Hi everyone!
My posts are a bit all over the place right now as I'm trying to get my sleeping pattern back to normal.
I woke up at 9.30am today (compared to 6pm that's pretty good!) but I feel rotten like I just want to sleep for a week. Bleh.

Oh well, on to the nails!

This is "Dream Catcher" from Nicole by OPI, another from "The Haul" - and yes I'm nearly done swatching these!

I noticed something strange when I was swatching this, normally I'll google the nail polish before I swatch (or as I do it) to see what other people's opinions on he polish are and what it looks like on them, with this one I found something very weird... look here...

As you can see this is COMPLETELY different to the bottle i have, which looks like this... (also, have you seen the Nicole by OPI bottles? What the HECK is going on with the mad shape?)

Does anyone know what the crazy is going on here?

Anyway...here's what THIS version of Dream Catcher looks like on me...

This was 3 coats.

I really like this, I used to have a colour that was almost exactly the same as this years ago, but I have no idea where it went! Or what it was called, or who by. Blech. I just remember it had a shiny red metal handle on the brush and you can get them in Priceline here in Aus... Oh well! I have this now!

Hi everyone!
Everything's been a little mad here so yet again I didn't get to the shops, sorry!
You'll have to settle for a vault post where I went... insane....

Yes, that is a little hello kitty. On a toenail. A big toe-nail. A man big toe-nail.
There's a story behind this which i'm not going to go into.

The base for this one is Orly's Enchanted Forest with Fauxnad Hello Kitty using Colour Club's After Hours as stamping polish, the face is Stargazer White (from the "Gothic French" kit) the nose is The face Shop GLI11 and the bow is Stargazer nail Art Pen in UV Pink.

And yes, this is waaay sloppy, you all know I normally wouldn't post things this bad but for a Hello Kitty man-pedicure I had to make an exception!

My nail art needs a little work but mostly this is due to me trying to finish up and slap some seche on before Jai could complain. :)

Hey everyone!
sorry for the late post - I had such a lazy day an was trying to figure out what the heck to post as I still have no cotton balls and beetle nails, so I did a matching eye look with the shadows I got from Lisa Kate!

Sorry for the application and pics - makeup is definitely not my forte as yet but now that I have so many pretty colours I want to play with them and show you the results!

This looks much brither and more amazing in real life - pictures can't convey just how amazing these colours are!

I used:

Aromaleigh - Cricket (acid green - inner corner)

Barry M - Aqua Gold (teal with gold shimmer)

Hi Fi - Don't Fear The Nobodies (bright blue)

Fyrinnae Hypercool (black with blue shimmer)

I think it turned out quite cool looking!

If you want to see more makeup looks let me know, likewise if you think I should keep them to myself.

Also if you have any suggestions for colour combos or links for designs etc you want to see me try - I'm still learning and would love some help!

This is the same as my last post, one coat of Orly Ridge Filler (also, notice this has removed the bubbles from my polish lately? It's another from "The Haul" - definitely a winner!) with 2 coats of Colour Club - After Hours, 1 coat of Seche Vite, One coat of Essie - Matte About You, with 2 coats of Inglot - 203, 1 coat of Seche Vite, Finally one coat of Essie - Matte About You in the last couple of photos. Phew!

Also, sorry about the picture quality, the sun ran away and had to shoot indoors and I have VERY shaky hands!

10 things that make me happy

I've been tagged by the AMAZING Scandalous from Scandalously Polished
I have to post 10 things that make me happy and then tag 10 people. Here we go...

1. Melbourne. I frikking love it here, even with the floods, fires, violence and so on that you see on the news, I can't get over how amazing this city is. Gorgeous old buildings like the Gothic Bank (below) mixed in with all the crazy newness and everything that makes this city what it is. Love!

2. POLISH. It's a given, but there's nothing like the feel of having your nails done in amazing colour, even if you're having a bloaty day, your hair's a mess and you have a gigantic zit, you can still feel well groomed and pretty! Also having people go "oh my GOD are your nails REAL?!" and then freaking out when I say they are. This happened YESTERDAY. :)

3. Vampires. Proper vampires. None of this sparkly bullshite. Their romantic nocturnal dreamy antics always make me wish I could wear head to toe elegance and be a creature of the night.

4. Puppies. I never liked dogs as a kid. My friends had little yappy fluffballs, nothing against small dogs but I'm not a fan. Sure, they're cute as heck (Sasha - your little baby is CUUUUTE) but they're not for me. Too licky! One of my housemates has a bull arab and he's a gigantic little kid, he's so much fun to play with and when I wrestle with him I'm not scared I'll break him. Also, he's so gentle. He knows I'm a girl, also that I'm hesitant around dogs and that he has to play nice with me. :)

5. Invader Zim. It's random, in turns creepily intelligent and INSANELY STUPID. If you've never heard of Zim, watch this:

6. Going for drives with Jai. I can't drive but going for drives with Jai is so much more fun than being a passenger with anyone else. We can just be comfy and sit in silence, or talk, or have music. He's from Queensland and I was born in Sydney, raised in Canberra so exploring Victoria is a novelty for both of us which makes it so much fun!

7. Doing pretty makeup. I'm not good at it get but just playing with makeup is so much fun and makes me feel like I was when I was a teenager borrowing my mum's lipsticks and eyeshadows and foundation. (She let me borrow them.) One of my favourite lipsticks is my bright pink Givenchy that she gave me because she didn't wear it anymore and it matched my fluoro pink hair perfectly!

Nothing beats the sensation of a properly laced steel boned corset, changing the shape of my body to what I dictate, not what's on the TV, fixing my horrible posture (I'm 5'10" and feel like I'm surrounded by midgets sometimes HAHA so my posture is terrible) and going from tall thin stick insect to curvy, booby, gorgeousness.

9. Blogging. I love this, sitting with my crazy overheating Macbook Pro (Known as "Po" - the r had a thiny stick on it that I picked off, taking the r with it!) and knowing that there are people out there sharing my obsessions, enjoying my rambles, laughing at my so called "wit" and feeling like I'm part of something. In only a couple of months I've made friends, been accepted, learnt so much and gotten so many lemmings! (Lookit me go! Using terminology! HA!)

10. This really should be number 1... Photography. Not that you would know from my happy snaps on this blog but I am an avid photographer. I moved to Melbourne for Uni to study a B.SC. Scientific Photography after completing a photography Major in college. I looove film, especially black and white and large format, but am now wrapping my head around digital photography. I have a Canon Ixus that is an AMAZING little snappy camera but I really would love a 50D. Hopefully soon I'll get a job, have decent income and be able to buy myself one!

Hay all!

Another from "The Haul" (I still have 3 more to swatch! And I'm out of cotton balls!) - this one's Colour Club's After Hours! I topped it with Seche Vite. Yum yum.

I wanted to see how it looked matte - I've learned from experience only to do this to shimmers! This will keep me happy for AGES as a go-to polish for clubbing.
Frikking love it. It's not quite Manglaze awesome but looks wicked. Looooove it.

I don't think it's quite shimmery enough to be a manglaze dupe. Being from Australia means unless I can get a whole lot of people together to get the real thing it's out of reach for me. :(

On another note I see I've just hit the big 5-0. I was hoping to have a giveaway at 50 but we'll see how my finances go this week! :)

THIS is BFF from China Glaze...

It's nigh on impossible to take a bad photo of this baby! This is under 2 different lights and flash. It ALWAYS looks amazing! I'm obsessively in love with these. I need the whole set!

Not that this wasn't gorgeous enough on it's own - I wanted to add a tiny bit of konad, mostly cos I've been feeling super lazy. So I thought a mini galaxy would work with the amazing starbursts of colour!

This took AGES. I almost gave up - but it looked so cool I couldn't stop! These are teeny stars from fauxnad C01.

Hello right hand! We don't see you round these parts much! haha!

For the stamping I wanted it to be subtle and work with the holo-ey-goodness rather than overpowering it. So when I read that Aussie brand Chi Chi konads well but is very pale and you can see through it - I thought this may be the perfect occasion to try!

The stamping colour is "High Maintenance" - you last saw it when I did my half moon manicure!

Hi everyone!
The other day I had a job interview so my lovely colours had to be removed and do... safe for work colours.

Ugh. I hate it. I mean, just because my nails are holographic turquoise (they're not...) doesn't mean I can't be professional, right? Better to play it safe in the interview stage I figure.

This is Avon Nailwear in "Venus" - i've had this one FOREVER. I got this at the same time I got a pastel purple - and I remember wearing that to primary school! Gak!

I mattified it... thought it would make it look cooler. It did, purely because matte is a novelty to me still (lol)

On another note - I received these two lovelies in the mail!

And oh... my... god... how have I been polishing my nails for this long without Seche Vite? It's AMAZING. Though I've heard scary stories of tip shrinkage and it going gloopy after using only half a bottle - any tips on how to work this stuff the right way?

Hello again lovelies! This is what I had on a couple of days back - another from "The Haul" - Colour Club's Groove Thang!

It looked awesome in the bottle - I couldn't wait to try this! Green and purple duochrome shimmer on black! YUM!

Unfortunately... it wasn't. On my nails it just looked plain black - maybe a tiny, tiny, tiiiiiny, hint of colours if I pressed my nails into my eyeballs... I was disappointed. I might try this with matte and see what happens at a later stage.

Excuse my insanely crappy photos today - I was desperate to capture the colours!

Oh well! I can never have too much black polish! (My previous bottle had turned to glug city - adding thinner just made it separate and... uh... chunks... ew...)

Just a quick update to say I'm more than happy to start taking requests for blog banners/sigs/buttons again.

I can't draw - so if you want a specific image in your banner you will have to source it if I can't find stock, as I don't want it coming back to bite me in the arse for not having the appropriate licenses for using images.
Other than that I have a huge selection of photoshop brushes, textures and stock so I will most likely be able to come up with something you like!

I'm feeling a bit better (my ebay purchases arriving cheered me up heaps - not to mention Scandalous's package!) and I have bags of stuff to show you - but rather than bash it all out into one long post I'll pace myself as best I can. This means even if i'm feeling crummy I'll still have something to post.

First off - the first thing I tired out of Scandalous's Package (hereforth known as "the haul") was China Glaze's Matte Magic - I wanted to see what it would do to my gradient mani.

Up next was this little beauty that Scandalous insisted I try first.

Your wish is my command!

Unless your wish is for me to do clean up right now.

Acetone is making me cough and when you feel like your lung is ripping open every time you cough I think not doing clean up is excusable.

Because I'm new to the whole nail polish blogging scene AND am living in Australia I was completely oblivious to all the buzz going on a while back about this polish.

But now I know.

And for those of you that don't - meet opulent cloud.

A dark purple tinged pewter with a soft gold flash. At first it didn't grab me, but it's growing on me the more I look at the bottle.

I'm a bit undecided about how I feel about Sally Hansen polishes - the watery but nice black, the AMAZING pink, the laughable "Xtreme" wear, and of course let's not forget the "natural" shade that was paler than Edward Cullens skinny eternally pre-teen arse.

So stay tuned my lovelies! There's HEAPS more to come!

Small Hiatus

Hello girls!

And don't worry - I really do mean small! Went to the hospital today but no luck - four hours of waiting in emergency and by then the line was going out the door with head wounds (what - did the zombies invade at exactly the time I need to go to hospital?) so hopefully another doctor might be able to figure out what the hell is wrong with me.

On a much happier note - I got a package today!
Scandalous from Scandalously Polished is THE most amazing girl. Between her and Evil Angel from Black nail polish and lip gloss, they really have made me feel involved in this community.

I'll post pics of the haul later - its been a hell of a day. I ended up painting my nails a few times (daaamn you smudges!! oh - and I could SWEAR the coffee table moves when I'm not looking...) so there's a few pics on their way.

I also have a meeting with my Job Network this week so hopefully Toxin won't be unemployed much longer. Less time but more money - works for me!

Hello my lovelies!
I was originally going to try one of those "swoop" manicures I've been seeing around the place with these colours.

But I can't draw straight lines. Ack.

So instead i broke out the sponges I used for zombie-toes and has my first ever crack at a PROPER gradient mani.

I'm immensely impressed with how well I did!

It looks so much brighter in real life.

As you can see up close you can see sections that look blotchy and a bit weird, but even I'm not looking that close IRL.

I think I might keep this one on longer than I anticipated.

Also - i'm feeling a bit better but still can't sleep though the night due to pain. Going to hospital today. Wish me luck. :)

Ugh. I am sick of swatching plain colours. I want to do some nail art so I can get better at it!

This is Urban Decay's "Bruise"
I frikking LOVE this colour.
As you can see it is a dark purply burgundy with green shimmer.

If anyone has noticed me being bitchy, snarky, or generally emotionally absent lately (HA!) it's because I went to do doc yesterday as I've been having three days of pleuritic chest pain. Not good. The doctors are a little stumped as I do not have the normal symptoms of pleurisy, just the pain. So it could be a number of things for which I may need to go to hospital. Bleargh. I just want it to hurry up and be pay day already... I know exactly what will cheer me up... >:D

Hello Ladies!

This is my newest addition to my little polish family (I recently ran out of room in my shoeboxes - and they were falling apart! - so I moved them to a new home!)

I'm really starting to notice the huge gaps in my polish collection.
More purples than anything. Until last week, no pink, no flakes, no silver.

Thankfully these have all now been rectified.

I picked up Rimmel's "Your Majesty" from a discount pharmacy.

FRIKKING BUBBLES.

Also - I did do clean up but the sparkles ended up EVERYWHERE.

Hence this post's title.

I really like this!
Its super streaky with bothers me cos I'm a maniac about streaks (and BUBBLES) but it's still really pretty.

I went to a friend's house a couple of weekends back (we've both been lurking on polish blogs for ages - she does a cocktail blog - SidecarBeastie - its in my blogroll!) and we were chatting about polishes, how we both love how all these different brands look but find it so hard to find them here in Australia.

Then she said "Oh wait - I had something to show you!" and pulled out a flakie. I nearly squealed.
"Where did you get THAT?!"
Then I saw the label.

Inglot.

Inglot is AMAZING. It's a standalone counter at Highpoint (for those Aussies that are curious!) which is fifteen minutes near my house. I went down there on thursday. They were doing a Valentines Day deal - a polish and a lipgloss for fifteen dollars.

Of course I walked straight to the flakies - they had different ones, red, orange blue and green.
I originally wanted the blue flakie but it didn't have a sticker on it - meaning it wan't available for the Vday deal.
I picked up the green with the blue/purple duochrome.

I thought it would look awesome over the pink... so here you go!

Hello ladies!

Remember when I said I picked up two polishes at the supermarket?
Well they were both Sally Hansen Xtreme wear polishes, one was "Wild Life" that I showed you yesterday. Here is the other - #24 - "Black Out"
I wasn't expecting to love the pink quite as much as I did, I thought it would be a shame to take it off straight away, so for the other I brought in a guest model, My Boy, Jai!

This is two coats.

"Real Men don't do clean up!"

Now for his review on this polish:

"I'm thinking it could have been thicker, it seemed so wet, if that makes sense, like I'm used to wet meaning thin and patchy and crap... but this was okay. Anyhow it has hardly chipped yet but that won't take long. This was okay but I really want the black matte one. I also want to paint my truck in it."

So the verdict is: These are thin. I used 4 coats of the pink to achieve full coverage and Jai used two coats but its still a little patchy. Also, Jai wants 60,000,000 bottles of Manglaze "Matte is Murder".

Because I can - I'm going to let you know how these wear using Jai as my tester. They advertise as "Xtreme" wear - lets see how extreme they are when Jai is elbow deep in an engine. Because it's black - any chips will show up very clearly.

So what did you think of my guest this evening ladies? Should I let Jai occasionally join in my polishing madness, should I let him go back to computer games and engine bits, or should I be worried about the competition?

Hello Ladies!
Just another quick post to let you all know that my Tangle Teezer arrived today!

What a surprise when I open the package to find I did not get it in default black - but HOT PINK!

I have very fine wavy colour treated hair that snarls constantly and looks like it needs brushing every 5 minutes. The main reason for this being that 3 years ago my hair was the exact colour of my new tangle teezer and I am still repairing the damage I did to it.

In a word - whoa.

[From the website] Tangle Teezer’s unique teeth configuration delivers a dual action of rapid, pain-free detangling and dramatically reducing hair breakage, splitting and damage as well as polishing the hair for high shine.

I'm not sure about pain free - it does catch in my hair on knots like any other brush - but it moves through the knots, detangling them. I had a couple of automatic "ouch" moments, but this time it was a little tug on my hair, not the brush becoming wedged, matted and making a bigger mess than before as I struggle to tear it away from my head.

I love it.

Now at first glance this manicure may not seem very romantic - but on my 21st birthday Jai got me a lovely ring, with topaz (my birthstone) and diamonds set in gold.
Normally I wear a lot of silver and black, my bridge piercing is surgical steel and I hate clashing metals in my jewellery.
But I'll make an exception for him. :)

So this manicure is one of the new colours I picked up in order to go with my ring. :) I have one more new colour to show you but you'll have to be patient!

It's a very pale gold with super fine shimmer in it. The shimmer occasionally shows flashes of colour - as in the picture above.

Sorry for the bubbles again - it has to be the humidity here, as this is without base or top coat after cleaning my nails with acetone.

Hello Ladies!

I have a serious problem. When I walk up to racks upon racks of stunning colours, I can never help myself.

I always get purple!

I knew what I was doing this time around at least - that's why I grabbed the mint green (and another still to come!)

I don't *quite* have another purple like this.

Its soft, but bright. It almost has a flash to it too...

Why does it say pedicure? Odd.

For some silly reason I didn't take any photos of the colour before I put some konad on.

I've been a little mad lately.

Hello again lovelies!

I was thinking how bright my nails are.. would they glow under UV?

Well being the Darkling that I am - I can answer that for you right away as I have UV and actinic lighting in my bedroom!

I didn't take any under UV as that is a menace to photograph, not to mention I would have to stand very precariously on the back of the couch so you'll have to settle for actinic! [Actinic lighting is often seen in aquariums or in some seedy nightclub bathrooms - this is that really blue light that reacts like blacklight - this is because it emits a light spectrum from blue to UV! :) ]

OoooOOOOoooOOOoooh.

I wanted to play with the UV and I thought it would be annoying if i set up the actinic and it didn't glow! So I added to my nails in case - this way if the pink wasn't UV then I would still have something to show you!

I used Stargazer's Nail Art Pen in UV white - under UV this usually glows like a white shirt in a club - but the pink overpowered it a bit!

I'm sorry for the terrible pictures - actinic light is really hard to photograph under - especially when you're holding the camera with the wrong hand!

Also, please excuse me for not doing any clean up at all today, I was too excited to show you everything!

Hello my lovelies!
Sorry for my absence, real life got in the way a little bit there!
I went shopping today and snagged some new polish - so keep your eyes peeled cos there's more polish posts coming your way!

First off I bought some water decals. They were french patchwork hearts and in a word? DISASTROUS.
They weren't long enough to cover the ends of my nails BY FAR, felt horrible, were far too fiddly and just a waste of time and money. they were so bad I didn't take any pictures - just took them off straight away.

I decided to use one of my new polishes to cheer me up.

So I needed a happy colour... I chose this.

THE HAPPIEST COLOUR IN THE WORLD.

Its BYS - N85 - "Pink Panic." I got it from Cotton On Body.
It's so bright! With the colour and the texture it reminds me of hot pink PVC. I wonder if its bright enough to be UV reactive?

I also snagged a bargain from Inglot - they're having a Valentine's Day special where if you buy one of their nail polishes (only certain ones - but there are MASSES of awesome ones to choose from) you get a lipgloss too for $15!
The lipgloss colours are fairly natural shades - I chose the brightest most glittery one of the lot.
I love it!

Its not "gritty" or sticky, it smells like cherry lollies (but not the ones that smell like medicine) and it has a hint of sweetness. The smell is very subtle - a soft sweetness with an afterthought of cherries. I hate when some lipglosses smell so strong they overpower your perfume and drive you nuts - I mean - it's right under your nose! They don't need to smell strong!!

Yay! I'm so happy now and can't wait to swatch my new babies! You're gonna LOVE them!

Hello Ladies!

Hello ladies!

I know i'm a bit later than usual with my posts - I am trying to get my sleeping pattern back to normal!

After my last manicure I felt so damned gaudy... I felt like I had to step it up a bit.
This usually happens - after wearing black I tend to go for something totally different, then that ends up feeling like it was way too overkill so I usually go back to black.

But somehow I don't think that me having every other post with black nails will quite cut it, will it now?

So I went for something a bit different.
I still wanted something vampy, but something warm, something with class.
Originally I was going to go with a red but I found this in my little box of tricks and couldn't stop staring at the bottle! I made it a bit different by doing a half moon manicure with it.

I did this last night before going to sleep so excuse the sheet marks! Ack!

But isn't this colour just DIVINE?!
It's a burgundy purply elixir.

This one is "High Mantenance" by ChiChi - an Aussie brand.

I love ChiChi - the names are amazing - Mortisha, Mermaid, Jitterbug - too cute! Also, most of them go for the sort of names like -"Plain Jane" "Movie Star" "Soapie Addict" "Paparazzi Princess" "High Heeled Housewife" "Corporate Femme".
Not to mention it applies like a DREAM.
This is two coats but it would have been fine with one - Except I'm a total doofus and bumped one of my fingers.

The moons are the "natural" colour from a french manicure kit by Sally Hansen - this one is "Sheer Romance".
But seriously, Sally Hansen? Natural? I'm a half british goth and that is in no way natural on ANY LIVING PERSON.
Also - it applies HORRIBLY.
It streaks and its sheer in a way that you end up with gross patchy globs.
Originally I just wanted a wash of colour but it just wouldn't work for me.
So I ended up just applying until it was opaque.
I lost count at 6 coats. SIX!!!!
Has anyone else tried these?

So what do you think?
I can't stop looking at my nails because of how much this colour ROCKS.

Hello gorgeous Ladies!

I just want to start by saying a huuuuuuge thank you to Sasha!
I won her Tangle Teezer giveaway!

This is just what I needed to brighten up my day as I've been a bit down lately.

At the moment I am unemployed and the never ending vicious cycle is really taking its toll on me and some days I find it hard to get out of bed.
I started this blog because I was inspired by all the amazing nails blogs I have been lurking on for a few months now - Last month I decided to give it a go for myself.

I have partially completed a Scientific Photography degree (B.Sc/B.A) but due to finances was forced to drop out.
I am now looking for work in order to get some more stability in my life so I can go back to Uni.

During my time at Uni I did a year of photoshop classes - I consider myself a quite proficient amateur now!
If anyone wants me to make them a banner or signature or anything at all for their blog - PLEASE feel free to contact me.
Anything that keeps me busy will keep a smile on my face!

Valentines Pt. II

Hello Gorgeous Girls!
I'm feeling really bleh today. I did a cutesy valentines mani - its so cutesy I think I'm gonna barf. In all honestly i'm trying to cheer myself up and get in the valentines spirit - which for my own reasons is really hard right now but ANYWAY.

This is what I did:

For starters - what the HELL causes those damn bubbles?

Also that bright pink is UV reactive. Its one of the stargazer nail art pens. The dark purple has silver glitter though it which refused to show up under any lighting conditions. The pale purple is a franken I made - 4 nail polishes and some mineral eyeshadow. It didn't turn out quite how I wanted but it's still pretty.

Also - I have a formspring.me! (the widget is on the left sidebar) so ask me some mad questions!

What do you think ladies? Are you boycotting valentines or looking forwards to it?
